United Buddy Bears in Malaysia from 29 Nov in Jalan Bukit Bintang by the Pavilion

The UNITED BUDDY BEARS promote tolerance and understanding among nations, cultures and religions.

143 Buddy Bears represent as many countries as are recognised by the United Ntions.
On 29th November 2011, the United Buddy Bears exhibition will be luanched in the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur under the patronage of the Sultan of Selangor.

For 3 months, the bears will be presented downtown on Jalan Bukit Bintang. The Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Tan Sri Ahmad Fuad Ismail, supports the exhibition and the overall focus is on aid for children in need.

Numerous charity activities are planned to take place during the weeks of the exhibition.

EU Film Festival Penang 2011 (24-30 Nov)

The EU Film Fest Penang will be held from 24 Nov-30 Nov in Penang at GSC Gurney plaza. This year's German films are: "Sophie Scholl, The Final Days" (24 Nov at 9.15pm) and "The Downfall" (27 Nov at 12noon)

Science Meets Art: Competition for Art Students - the last call for entry!!

The Goethe-Institut Malaysia, together with Pusat Sains Negara are encouraging young emerging artists who are currently enrolled in Departments of Fine Arts, Graphic Arts & Design at Malaysian Colleges and Universities to participate in this art competition, We expect personal answers to the following quesitons:

- How does science affect us in today's world?
- What is the effect of science on your art and lifestyle?
- Can science be reflected in art - Is art intrinsic to science?
- How can you express the relationship between art and science creatively?

The theme hopes to elicit students' awareness of art in relation to the scientific world around us. The best entries will be rewarded with prizes and the honour of having artworks exhibited in a public gallery or science spaces.

Commencement: 15 September 2011
Deadline: 31 October 2011

The Exhibition of best entries and the announcement of winners is planned for November/December 2011 at the Pusat Sains Negara, Bukit Kiara.

German Teachers' and Lecturers' In-Service:
11-14 Nov

We invite all German Teachers and Lecturers from private and state schools, colleges, and universities to participate in our last In-Service Seminar, 11 Nov (arr) to 14 Nov (dep) at the ZON Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

The Malaysian artist Yusuff Fathullah Luqman will discuss education and art with German teachers on Saturday, 12th Nov from 8-9.30pm.
Fathullah will conduct an arts workshop for children (7-12 years of age) from 5 Nov 2011 until the beginning of January 2012 at the National Art Gallery of Visual Art ARTworkshops (in Bahasa Malaysia).

Norhayati Kaprawi's film "Aku Siapa" will be shown and discussed on Sunday, 13th Nov from 2-4pm. (Program download) For information and enrolment please contact Mrs Patsy Ng,

KLEX Kuala Lumpur Experimental Film & Video Festival: 23-27 Nov

The Kuala Lumpur Experimental Film and Video Festival (KLEX) is a new, volunteer-organized, grass-root festival which was founded in Malaysia in 2010. KLEX aims to introduce contemporary experimental cinema from around the world to Malaysian audiences, the region, and develop experimental cinema communities in Malaysia. Michael Brynntrup from Germany will be one of this year's guest artists with special screenings and talks at New Era College and at Multi Media University.

Call for Documentary Films

The 11th Goettingen International Ethnographic Film Festival (9-13 May 2012) promotes documentary cinema with a special emphasis on new films, videos or interactive media (published after 1.1.2009) dealing with socio-cultural processes in a wide sense of the term.

Particularly welcome are filmmakers coming from anthropology, sociology, folklore and neighbouring disciplines.

German Language Courses

A new 4-week German course for young learners (10-14 years old) will be offered during the November/December school holidays! Please enquire under T. 03/2164/2011 and enroll your child in this interesting holiday course. The level offered is A1.

An A2 Intensive German Language Course will start on Tue, 8 Nov and run until the end of Dec 2011. You can already enroll now!

On 21 Nov we are starting a new A1 Intensive beginners' course that will be running until 15 January, 2012.
